African Chiclid questions?

Well, I was thinking about buying an African Chiclid from Wal-Mart (They're the only place in my area that sells fish, so please, I don't want to hear any crap). However, I have a few worries about them:

1. How big will they get? I know some Chiclids (Texas, especially) can turn into a real big monster.

2. Do they have to eat Chiclid pellets, or can they eat leftover food?

3. Are they aggressive? I've heard they can be aggressive to some fish. I have a Blue Three-Spot Gourami (Female), Serpae Tetra (Male), and a male guppy, incase it helps.

Help?
Don't get it. First of all the vast majority of African cichlids are vegetarian and have to eat special foods with high algae and spirulina content. They live at pH at least an entire point and a half higher than New World fish, can can't be lowered, and require extreme hardness and water conditioners .. Most of them get around 6 inches, with a few exceptions that I wouldn't expect to find at Walmart. Walmart probably doesn't know exactly what types they are, as there are over 700 and many are hard to tell apart. they may be Yellow Labs but there are over a dozen varieties of Aulanocaras which are also yellow. Some 200 of the African species haven't even been named yet.

They are extremely territorial and aggressive and will kill anything that wanders into their territiories.
Extremely aggressive, don't think about putting them into the tank you already have.

They get from 4-8 inches, depending on the species.

Yes they eat cichlid pellets, smaller ones. Hikari Cichlid Gold is my favorite.

Leftover food? You mean human food? No way.

They are kept in schools, 5 + is always good.

Edit -

You probley mean Yellow Lab Cichlids, and others of that sort, Yes they will eat food at the bottom of the tank.

Still, keep them in a species tank in groups.

- The other person has south american cichlids, not african cichlids.
