Do all fish tank filters have carbon in them?

Just wondering if mine does. It's an internal filter Aquarworld IF500. If there is carbon, I wouldn't know which it is ...
your filter does not have carbon. Carbon is really not needed if your tank is cycled. It is used to remove medications, smell and color of the water. If there is nothing wrong dont use it as it may mess things up
Hello there:)

In my opionion, carbon is to be used rarely; either when you are having visitors over and you want to impress them with your aquarium, or after treating your tank with medicine, and you want to remove the chemicals. The latter is because some medicines , especelly the ones that kill parasites (ick, velvet, etc) contain copper, which is harmful to snails and other inverts. The former because carbon makes the water clear by removing metals and other chemicals (not necessarly ammonia, nitrite and nitRATE)

Carbon is also expensive. I would just stick to the biological filtration and mechanical and leave the chemical aside unless needed.Tank filters all start with a biological media, and a carbon media. After a while (2 weeks), the effect of the carbon wears off, and you must discard. It is not a necessary, but it is recommend in special cases.
