I won three fish from the carnival. Im not familiar with different fish, but they look and said that theyre goldfish. I have no proper home from them, but ive placed them in a bowl/container thats about 12 inches high, five inches wide . I used water from the sink. They gave me a small container with maybe 50 peices of food. I put two peices in right now.
Can you tell me what im doing wrong? I really want to properly treat them and have them live long. Is this size home ok? Is sink water ok? How much do i feed them daily?
Thanks!
Well, first of all, goldfish can get really big, so you're going to need a much bigger tank.
Sink water has chlorine and other chemicals that can harm your fish. To get rid of chlorine ONLY, leave sink water out for at least 24 hours. It is recommended to buy some tap water conditioner, but it can add up quickly. Also, the tap water will become room temperature in those 24 hours. You don't want to shock the fish with a huge temperature change in the water.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Usually, fish food containers will tell you to feed as much as your fish will consume within a few minutes, twice a day. However, I think you should only feed a pinch of flakes once or twice a day. Overfeeding causes swim bladder disease and constipation. Uneaten food should be removed immediately to prevent it from rotting.
That's a really loaded question, but good for you wanting to be a responsible owner and do good by them:)
This is a decent site/article on how to get started:

Hope this helps!
I would advise going to a pet supply store like Pet-smart, or an independent pet store to get advice. The people who work there are real pet lovers and will point you in the right direction regarding your fish (es).
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I once won a fish at a carnival booth. The poor fellow was an albino and had no eyes. He lived for eleven years! He kept growing and I provided him with larger and larger bowls. Ultimately, he was in a 50 gallon tank. He grew to about 2 feet long. I called him Old Whitie.
The fact that your fish have survived the first 24 hours says a lot! Usually, carnival fish don't last that long. Get some expert help regarding your fish.
I still miss Old Whitie!
