i am going to take a fish home tomorrow i have quite big biorb like 4-5 gallon ... do betta need filter i dont have filter and heater and heater i dont want coz i live in india here temp is better for tropical fish. . cam i go with single betta or with 2-3 guppies??
If you dont cycle the tank than you would need to do 100% water changes on like a weekly-biweekly basis which is both cumbersome and time consuming for you with a tank that size and stressful for the fish. If would be much easier to get a filter and cycle the tank for both of your sakes.
As long as the temperature never drops below about 74F then you don't need a heater. As long as you regularly do PARTIAL water changes, you do not need a filter, but one is recommended (makes life easier for you and the fish).
All tanks will cycle in time, unless you constantly interrupt the cycle by doing complete and too thorough of tank cleaning (keep killing the beneficial bacteria).
A betta can survive a cycle, but subjecting it to such stress may result in disease right away (fungus, parasites, columnaris, pop eye, dropsy, etc) or show negative effects later down the line (internal organ problems, bloat, dropsy) .
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com It is best to cycle the tank first adn start right. Just running an empty tank is NOT cycling it, it is just running an empty tank. You need to add in ammonia to feed the bacteria to get the cycle going adn keep the tank cycled . Research "fishless cycle".
I'm not in India so not sure on prices.
It's best if the tank is filtered, but betta are pretty though and will survive the cycling process, especially if you do a few extra water changes in the first few weeks. Once the tank is cycled it should stay clear and clean with only small water changes each week.
If you live in a tropical area you wont need a heater
Mixing guppies and betta in a small tank is risky, better to stick with just the betta.

if your house temperature is constantly at around 78 degrees fareinheit then you don't need a heater, but bettas really do better with filters. If you don't get a filter, you'll have to do a lot of water changes to keep the water quality in check. filters make it a lot easier, but bettas can in theory live without filters, as long as you do enough water changes to keep the water quality perfect.
It really should sit and run without fish for 2-3 weeks. It could put your Betta in shock. Also 1 Betta FULLY stocks a 4-5 gallon. If you wanted guppies you would need a 10 gallon and 1 Betta and 3-4 Guppies will stock that. 25 % water changes are needed weekly no matter what though. As long as the temperature is between 76-82 degrees and doesn't change more than 3 degrees in a day. Drastic temperature changes can stress and kill Betta's ...
yes you do! get aqua clear! its the best and you dont need a heater in india ...
