I have two platies in my 29g tank one is female and one is male. The male is always hanging around the female platy and the female platy is usally at the bottom of the tank are they breeding? Or fighting?
2 mollies
2 platies
2 danois
1 guppy
1 betta
Okay the others didn't really answer the question so here you go okay ... if you see them chasing around each other and if you see the males bottom fin flipping up and down they are mating if he just follows her around its probably because he likes her or something
They are breeding.
It is best to stock the livebearing fish at a ratio of two female or more to every male otherwise the males will often overwhelm the female, she gets stressed, and dies. The female hanging out all the time at the bottom indicates she might be stressed from over attention.
If you keep your tank well planted or have lots of hiding spots for fry (like use a breeding mop or lots of fake plants and large substrate like marbles) then you do not have to separate the fry and most will make it.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com You do have room for more fish if you like, but if they are breeding, expect to be overstocked soon with lots of cute little babies!!! The betta will help keep the numbers lower as they are great at hunting out the small fry and limiting the population.
Please correct your stocking when possible.
Mollies, Platies and Guppies really are group fish. They do not school, but still requires 3 + to thrive. At least add one more guppy. Danios are group/schooling fish, and can not properly school with only 2 members. Please get 3 -4 more for sure.
Regaurding the platies, since you have a male, your female is pregnant. All the fish will eat the fry though ...
