so, i just cleaned my fish tank two days ago and just a lil bit ago i looked in it and saw a fuzzy white circular thing at the bottom on the gravel. I took it out and put it in the sink to see what it was and once it came out of the water the fuz came off and it was black and almost looked like a worm .....=/any idea of what that could be?? is it harmful to my fish or anything?
It's old food that molded. A few Ghost Shrimp or Corydoras will help. Ghost Shrimp are cheap at 33 cents and grow 1-2 "while Corydoras are about $ 3-3.99 and grow 2-3". They are a group catfish and 3 + should be purchased at a time (never one!), 5 is even better. Both do a great job at cleaning food at the bottom WAY before it has the chance to rot. 4-5 Ghost Shrimp can go in 10 gallons. Corydoras need a 15-20 gallon for 3.
Did you give your fish any toxic corn? That is always the problem with those things, called Deformed Poop. Give the fish food and then let it swim for a while, but not too long . Then let it breathe water, but again, not for too long. Then fart. The vibration will help the fish, as well as the smell.
It could have been an old piece of fish food, it depends on what kind of fish you have, you should try feeding them a different way if you don't want other old pieces of food lying around.
It could be Ick. It will kill your fish if you don't get it out.
