There are so many different tail types and colors of betta, what is your favorite? I like blue and purple fantails, but I'm pretty new to bettas.
* Ok just for a side question, how do you pronounce betta? This may seem kinda stupid, I know. I've always said it with a short "e" and short "a", like bet (as in gamble) with a short "a" on the end. My sister says it like "bata", with long a long "a" sound insted of a short "e".

what everyone is saying (like america pie beta house) is spelled beta (with one t) and is pronounced bay-tah. YOU are saying it right, your sister is wrong;)
I personally like mustard gas bettas, especially half moons. They make purple mustard gas bettas which are amazingly beautiful in my opinion:

Female bettas. They are so underrated because you rarely see them in pet stores but they are awesome! You hear people refer to them as "my girls" and even I call my only female betta "my girl". She lives in a 10 gallon with platys and zebra danios and she is pretty b! tchy to them but she doesn't hurt them. I love her, by far my favorite fish. I also have a male betta who lives in his own little tank. He is huge and blue and prettier than my girl, but he is not as .. spunky.
I say bay-duh.
Have you seen, "American Pie: Betta House", or whatever? It is said like that.
I LOVE purple and pink Betta's. By pink I mean the kinda white color that has a pink tint. I don't like red Betta's for some reason. Just not pretty. As for tail shapes, I was going through petsmart and getting the prices they sale certain Betta breeds for. Luckily I like the cheapest tail version=) I think Crown tails are ugly to be honest.

It is properly pronounced bet-a not bait-a but 90% of people say it wrong and act like you are a retard for saying it correctly. I'll use both ways depending whose company I am in (got sick of correcting people or getting corrected myself) You are not stupid! You totally have it correct.

Many people get it confused with BETA which is a greek letter. (Like alpha, beta, cappa). They learn it from movies and college days and then just apply that term to the betta. They are not the same thing. Bait-ah is a greek letter, Bet-ah is a genus of fish.
I like the mustard gas bettas. But all betta are wonderful!
Sky blue becuae that is a very colorful color to have on anything you want it to be that is why I like the color.
I love most bettas, but half moons are very pretty! Red and blue are my favorite colors.
