So, I won a goldfish at the funfair today, and I want to know a few things. Just to keep things clear, I will buy it goldfish food, but I cannot afford a goldfish tank/aquarium so it will stay in a bowl. Anyway, here's my questions, please make sure you answer them all!
1. Can you use tap water when refilling the bowl, or do you have to use bottle water?
2. All the pet stores were closed by the time I got my goldfish, so I couldn't get fish food today. What can goldfish eat apart from goldfish food or flakes?
3. Will it survive if I don't put a filter in it's bowl?
4. How many times will I have to clean the bowl? (I don't mind refilling it everyday as long as my fish survives!)
Thank you for taking the time to read my question, and please try and answer!:)
Use bottle water ...
just wait till the pet stores open your fish should be okay.
it will survive in a bowl but with a filter they survive alot longer.
and clean your bowl out when you start to see the water getting foggy even a little bit.

but the more you keep the bowl clean the longer your fishy will survive.
You are going to have to break down and get somethings besides food for the fish ... The best way for you to go is to buy a 20 gallon kit. All you need will be in it.
By Your questions it is evident you have not cared for fish before. That is OK, just be willing to learn the needs of a goldfish, and be willing to meet them. If you cannot, maybe you could donate the fish to your local pet store?
i won one from the fun fair too. they gave it to me in a bag, we had to find something to put it in but i say keep it in the bag because we tried to put it in a tank and it just died. also maybe you can put it in a vase type thing if you had one of those
my advice to you, hope it helps you alot!
THANKS
its gonna die in a few days be happy if it lasts the night ...
if you have to get a bowl, get the biggest one you can get, even then, the goldfish may not survive. And it will certainly not survive without a filter, goldfish are notoriously dirty. you might be able to get a sponge filter you could put in the bottom of his bowl. they need at least 10 gallons. u can use tap water, but make sure to condition it with a decholrinator before you put it in the bowl. API makes a good tap water conditioner, stress coat works well too. just get fish food tomorrow, they don't absoulutely have to eat every day. if you feed it other stuff chances are he won't eat it and it will pollute the water and kill him. if you abosoulutely have too, feed him teeny tiny bits of lettuce or cooked spinach. No it will not survive without a filter. goldifsh are VERY dirty, probably the dirtiest of all fish, and they REALLY need a filter. try to get a sponge filter you can put in the bottom of his bowl. the amount of times you have to clean the bowl depends on how big it is. small bowls need to be cleaned more often. larger bowls can somtimes go a couple extra days before they need to be cleaned. you will also have to clean it less often as long as it has a filter. some good filters you could consider would be:

1. bottle water works better. you can use tap water, but it is safer to use bottled. remember to put in the water conditioner!
2. The fish should be fine. You only have to feed them once a day, so it should not be a big deal as long as you feed him/her tomorrow.
3. Yes, it will survive. They do live a much longer life with a filter though.
4. Umm once it gets foggy. It depends on how big the bowl is and stuff like that. I would say once a week or twice a week, but then again, the judgement is up to you.
-You also might want to buy some stress-relieving medicine to put in his/her bowl just in case of stress from being at the fair, because you do not know what they do to them (:
1, you can use tap water but you will need to treat it to remove harmful chlorines and heavy metals which is present in tap water, go to your local pet store ASAP and ask for a water conditioner such as 'tap safe', 'AquaSafe' or whatever brand they have. It only costs a few pounds and is essential.
