I have one male & one female guppy in a 20 gallon tank. I just put them in there today and they are the only ones in the tank. I wasn't sure what I wanted to get and use in the tank and I liked the guppies so I got two of them. While there I saw these Platys that range from all black to all white and everything in between. I liked them but I wasn't sure if they would get along with the guppies. I asked the " ; fish expert "who told me he wasn't sure but told me I could try it and see what happens. I don't want to cause any stress and/or death so I was wondering what the people with REAL fish experience had to say. I'd get a male and female Platy also so it'd be four fish all together, 2 males and 2 females in a 20 gallon planted, filtered and heated tank. Could it work?
And here's a picture of the Platy I'm talking about:

guppies and platies will be great tank mates no worries at all with them, and the so called expert is no expert if he did not know if they will get along or not he does not know what he is talking about (do not get advice from him again). and platies are schooling fish so you need multiple of them. at least 4 or they will feel insecure and become stressed and die. you should also get 3 more guppies because they are schooling fish as well.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com nice choice of platy 1 of my favorite platies, feel free to Email me if you want advice from someone who knows what they are talking about.

if you want i can give you a list of other fish you can have with your guppies and platies
They will be great together. Good job in doing the research first. I commend you Ma'am! The Dalmation Platy you are considering looks beautiful! Go for it.
Yes they can. They are both livebarers with the same needs and eat about the same things. Just make sure you don't have enormous platys with very little guppies (the adults). Both will eat each other's babies and they may hybridize. They may bother memebers of the opposite sex and/or species occasionally, but not seriously.
Yes, they are great tank mates and even get crushes on each other. I had a platie/guppy mix because I had a male guppy that really liked a female Platie ...
yes they will be fine i have had them mixed together before and they are both community fish which means they are fine to live with other community fish as they are not aggressive species. x
yes, but the Platy will eat the baby guppies as will the adult guppies
No. They will not get along because they have different teeth and will always fight over which pebbles to breed with .
Snookie is right. I have had male guppies get crushes on female platies. it happens.
yes they do work i have a 10 gallon tank with 2 male guppies and 3 female platies in a tank together. sometimes male platies will nip at guppies, so get females if you can. my male guppies try to mate with my female platies (even though it is not physically possible) but my platies don't seem to mind. the guppies don't hurt the platies , they just pester them and show off a lot in front of them. they do there characteristic "mating dance":) it is funny to watch. so yes, you can keep platies and guppies together, but i reccomend female platies, but it really depends on the personality of the fish.
