how do root tabs work in an aquarium?

will the fish try and eat them? do you require one per plant? will it help the plants grow faster or just keep them healthy. thanks!
You put them in the gravel under the plant roots i used either 1 or 2 depending on my plants root size i did this for a while but got fed up of having to re root them every time i did a gravel vac in my tank so went back to liquid plant food much better

My fish never tried to eat them as far as i am aware and noticed no difference regarding my plants when i used them
I use them because i think they promote less micro algae growth then the liquid ferts, I would especially recommend them if you have any swords or other fert hungry plants, swords really do a lot of nutrition, just get aa set of tongs or something to hold on to the tab and weasel it down underneath the plant every two to three months, since i started using the tabs instead of liquids i feel like my plants are doing better and algae has really slowed down
