What is a good bottom feeder for me?
I have a ten gallon tank that is planted with a few java ferns and an anubias. Right now I have 5 harlequin rasboras. I was thinking about getting 4 kuhli loaches, but I'm not sure anymore. I want something that will eat the stuff on the bottom of the tank and on the leaves of the plants. I considered some cory cats, but I'm still not sure about them. What small bottom feeders do you guys like that are good at keeping things clean? Thanks for all your help everyone. :)
answer: Pygmy Corydoras is the only Corydoras that should be in a 10 gallon. They also should be in groups of 5-6 for best effect since they are more active with many buddies. 3 is suitable but may stay hidden more than 5-6 would. Kuhli Loaches are awesome. They are a better choice to put in 10 gallons. You should only get 3 though and not 4. 5 Harlequin Rasboras and 3 Kuhli Loaches would over stock a 10 gallon but nothing too serious. They will also clean the bottom. Another good choice is Ghost Shrimp. You would still need to do water changes and regular maintenance.
Okay you can't put anything else in your tank.

The tank is already stocked. If you put the loaches in your tank is going to be over stocked
You have to clean the tank yourself.
Having plecos/catfish /bottom feeders does not mean no
routine cleaning of 20 percent water change every week
using a syphon/gravel cleaner. For the glass..buy a magnetic glass cleaner from the fish store, not the grocery or hard ware stores as they contain toxins.
Use the magnetic cleaner around the tank once a week, fortnightly or monthly if it needs it.
10 gallons is a small tank.
I have a dojo loach in my tank and it eats absolutely everything. I have 2 plecs which make a lot of mess and the loach eats the lot. I still carry out a gravel clean but rarely get anything. I find corys don't really do a great job of eating much but my dojo loach definitely does. They can also be called japanese weather loaches.
I think you should get 3 corydoras, but only the smaller kinds like panda cories. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I have some Khuli Loaches and they barely eat anything on the bottom. They also only come out when the lights are off (most of the time.) Even though they look really cool I barely see them.
I recommend getting 3 panda cories.
Good Luck, and Hope this Helps.
If you are looking for an algae eater, then get a Siamese Algae Eater and you can still have your 3 corys. Do not mistake the Chinese Algae Easter for the Siamese. Chinese are mean, don't do well at eating algae and are a nusiance.
the only good bottom feeder I know of is a carp(not including goldfish).
