Mixing a tiger oscar and a jack dempsey with an electric blue cichlid?
They are the same general size, I just want to know if their water conditions and temperments would be okay together.
answer: The Oscar and Jack Dempsey could live together in a very large tank.
The Electric Blue ( Sciaenochromis fryeri), which is from Lake Malawi, needs very different water chemistry, and is quite different in behavior and aggression patterns. It's not a good fit with the other two.
The electric blue cichlid requires too high of a pH for the other fish. In addition, the Oscar and jack Dempsey will get much larger than the electric blue cichlid. I have also had some problems with Jack Dempseys getting over aggressive with Oscar fish. I really would not recommend putting any two of these fish together on a long term basis.
When it comes to water conditions you would have to have at least 75-100 gallons. Less gallons just wouldn't be good when it comes to waste buildup.
