Got a new Corydoras, but it is bent/quirked?
I bought 1 (to add to my pair) then the next day bought 2. One of the 2 died so I took it back today and got a new one. They scooped me up one that has a curvy, bent tail. I don't mind as I'll take good care of it anyways, but why are Corydoras quirked? With guppies and platies it is from inbreeding and nutrition issues. Does anyone know why a Corydoras would be quirked? It looks healthy and is acting great. Very active and happy to be out of a 10 gallon with no gravel. Is he Possibly in any pain? He'll live a long life if I take care of it right?
answer: when you mean bent is it by the end around its dorsal area? i have 2 golden barbs that are crooked i geuss from improper breeding...i honestly dont believe it will have a great effect on their lives, cause i have these two gold barbs that have a crooked dorsal area for atleast 2 years but it does seem like they arent too active or aggressive feeders like the others, just make sure they get a good amount of food. as for a corydora thats bent i never heard of or seen since i do breed Adolfoi corydoras and all the fry that mature come in perfect condition and i been doing this for atleast 2 years as well...your main concern really is that it stays in a group with the other corydoras and gets its nutrition.
It could be from as you already stated inbreeding/improper breeding or poor nutrition. It could also be from an accident/fight. If he isn't showing any signs of stress then he is properly feeling fine. In regards to how long he will live it just depends but having good waters conditions and other good fish keeping practices will certainly help.
