A few questions about using the Critter Keeper XL as an aquarium?
I want to get a Betta but I found most fish tanks big enough for one were expensive. then I found the Critter keeper, large was $7.50ish and XLs $12 or $13. I'm pretty sure large was 3 gallons, so I want the XL. I just a few quesstions. have to ask just a few questions.

1. How many gallons does the XL hold?
2. Are there any hoods I could buy that would work on it?
3. Is it a good home for a Betta fish?

Please answer!
answer:
1 - From the measurements it would be about 7 gal, plenty big enough for a betta.

2 - You could replace the lid with a sheet of glass, then any light can be mounted above the tank.
3 - Add a small heater and filter and it will be great.

1) I put measurements in an Aquarium Gallons Calculater. Its at LEAST 7 gallons. At most 8 gallons.
2) Probally, but the hoods have to be made just for the critter keeper. (If you want a light theres clip on LED aquarium lights for like 3-5$ at petstores)
3) Yes, considering it gives neccasary size. Please get a filter (find a good one for that size! ) and get a heater!
I'm sorry, in addition to the answers you have already received I just wanted to say that Critter Keepers are not very strong. They crack very easily. While I have used one as a quick isolation tank, I would be wary of using one as a permanent aquarium.
1. 6.95 gal
2. None that I know off, you can use a lamp if you need a light, but it won't work for any plants. As the above answerer said you can use clip on LEDs

3. Yes. Just keep in mind you will need a filter (air driven sponge filter would be best) and a heater (you can cut the top part to get wires in, its plastic)

To keep a standard betta, you don't need more than a couple gallons of water in a little fish bowl. Add some gravel to the bottom, maybe a little castle, but nothing to fancy. Anyone at your local pet store could steer you in the right direction.
Most people keep them in tiny "fish tanks" so im sure that will be fine for him.
Much bigger than what he is probally used to :)
