One white cloud Mountain minnow bullying the others.?
I have 5 white cloud Mountain minnow in a tank and one of them (Fred) is bullying the others.
In the morning at feeding time Fred is always at the top of the tank guarding the surface. when i put the food in he greedily eats heaps of food. when one of the other white cloud Mountain minnow swims up to get food, Fred will chase him/her nipping at his/her fins and tail until he/she swims down to the bottom corner with the rest of the fishes. This has been going on since i got them. I have another tank with 2 goldfish but they are a lot bigger than Fred and he is a schooling fish. please help!

Thats just the dominant male showing them who is boss!

I have 9 white clouds in my temperate tank there is one clear dominant male, who regularly displays to the others to show off and try and entice a female. He also chases the others away while feeding and also just when one of the others has the guts to display back. i really wouldn't worry about this behaviour, if possible try and get a few more (2-4) and hopfully there will be some females (the fat ones) for him to attend to. another option is to keep the water warm (25 -26c) as this will discourage him from trying to mate and may calm him down a little. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

PS i wouldn't separate him from the rest, as you already know hes a schooling fish and will become depressed and bored, and most probably eaten if you put him in with goldfish!

White cloud community owner.

I had a school of 6 white clouds and didn't see this kind of behavior in any of my fish. They were very peaceful schoolers. I would almost be tempted to go and talk to the store where you bought him and see if they wouldn't be willing to swap you fish, or at least give partial credit towards a swap. Maybe you'll have better luck with a different fish.

As for changing his behavior, sadly fish are not like cats and dogs. You can't exactly squirt him with a spray bottle and say "bad Fred!"

you could buy something called a fish separator where he can be on one side and the rest can be on the other side

hope i helped=)
