Did my clown fish lay eggs?
We just set up our tank two days ago with two clown fish. We have a large shell inside our aquarium which both fish spent swimming in and around all day. Later that night we noticed the larger of the two would not leave the shell. It would only peak it's head out every few minutes, wouldn't even leave to get food. The smaller fish is spending all of it's time in the opposite corner of the tank and has not got anywhere near the other fish. Because the larger fish is not leaving it's spot, we wondered if she had possibly laid eggs there? It just seems really soon since they have only been together for two days. Can anyone help me out?!
answer: It does not sound like she has eggs. The male usually tends to the eggs anyway. You would see him biting a quarter sized orange spot (the eggs) on the rock or shell to aerate them. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
It sounds like they are just hiding and getting used to the new tank. She will let him back to the shell, her new territory, within about three days usually.

its really hard to breed saltwater fish if you only had the tank set up a couple days before adding fish there are probably going to die it needs 3-6 weeks to cycle and build a bactiral bed before u add fish they might make it if your carful there needs to be a bactrial bloom before u add fish they didnt lay eggs just establishing territory probably if they did they eggs thats awsoem id like to know how u got them to do that!!
if your fish only been in the tank 2 days then most likely their just establishing territory
they probably laid eggs
