Could somebody give me some info on these breeds?
okay, im looking for a puppy, and I have read a lot on the internet, but everyone seems to be bias and totally unfair to each other on the topics. So, I would like only people that actually KNOW and have had first hand experience with these breeds to answer or give an opinion on them. Here are the list of the breeds I would like to know about.
1. Cane Corso
2. Caucasian Ovcharka
3. Presa Canario
4. French Mastiff(Douge De Bordeaux)
I would mostly like to know about your exp. with behaviors. I have heard stories that can argue that all of these breeds can be on the amazing and horrible breed side, I would like to know a totally unbias opinion. Thanks so much.
answer: I have to agree with Uhave2be....these are not breeds for the inexperienced. They are all big, strong, and sometimes headstrong breeds. Gorgeous dogs, all of them, but not easy to own.
Pets Questions and AnswersPets Questions and Answers I will star for some people on my contacts list, who own these breeds. The only one I have first hand experience with is the Dogue de Bordeaux. Super sweet and loving dogs, but large and slobbery and a bit headstrong.
@Sheri- First of all, PetSmart doesn't sell dogs. Second, wow....that is a HUGE fallacy. Purebred dogs are NOT sickly. If you buy from a good breeder, one who does health testing and breeds champion or proven working parents, then the puppies are going to be MORE healthy than an average shelter mix. Get your facts straight before you claim to know a lot.
ETA: I have a bullmastiff and he has been pretty easy to train and is generally mellow. I know several people with Dogues de Bordeaux (I think that is the proper plural) and they are WAY more lively than my dog. They had to do EXTENSIVE training to get them to stop jumping on people. They were able to handle it, but I have seen them in the hands of people who DON'T properly train and, boy....what a mess. A 140+lb dog with no manners is an accident waiting to happen.
If you have to ask about any of these breeds on YA it clearly proves that you are not ready to own any of them.

The "biased" articles have probably pointed out that none of these breeds are for inexperienced dog owners.
I suggest you to go the shelter and find a nice settled adult to bring into your family.

I have experience with both Cane Corsi and I happen to co-own and handle two Presa Canarios.
The Presas are very loyal, very large, and over-all extremely gentle. The male that I co-own was much easier to train then the female. He is highly intelligent, and very eager to please. He's also quite food-motivated. With training, these are excellent dogs. They are both amazing with young children (infants, toddlers, and more).
I have also trained a Cane Corso. He was much more difficult then the Presas - however he was in a bad living situation before I had gotten to him. He was more difficult, but regardless - with a lot of hard work he turned out to be a fine dog. He does have dog-aggression issues, and is selective with his canine friends. But a great dog.
I'd have to go with UHave2BeKidding
5d2d.comPets Questions and Answers I can tell you that with some research done on breed #2...there are basically NO good breeders in the US. and that dog, you want from a GOOD breeder
Each breed generally has a rescue website where you can find out about all the traits of the breed. Good and bad. I know I would never have a carnivore in my house that was bigger than the smallest member of my human family....
I currently have 2 Corsi and couldn't be happier with them. Like all large, dominant breeds they need a firm, fair leader from the start or they will take over. They are intelligent and loyal to a fault (if properly bred). If possible get out to some shows that might have some in attendance to meet in person as the internet can't show you everything in regards to any breeds. They can have typical large breed issues in regards to health and such.
Had a friend with a Bordeaux that was a great dog as well but I have no personal experience with them.
5d2d.com Pets Questions and AnswersPets Questions and Answers Caucasian Ovcharka are amazing in pics but again no experience with them. I used to have a friend who's father bred them and they were not a breed to mess with but as he had a huge ranch/farm the temperament that they have was critical to what he wanted from them. They might not be a breed to have in a more suburban setting.
