My cat won't eat his wet food.?
A few days ago, out of the blue, my cat got sick. He was growling and hissing every time I touched him, he tried throwing up but nothing would come up and he had diarrhea 3 times! I called the vet and she said he either ate something he shouldn’t have or maybe he was backed up. Well I waited it out and the next day he was acting better, wasn’t growling or hissing, he passed some normal feces but he didn’t have an appetite and he still doesn’t. I feed him Wellness chicken can food and I’m not sure if he got sick off of that, the vet didn’t seem to think so. I tried giving him some dry kibble and he ate that. The thing is, I know how horrible dry food is for cats so I don’t want to put him back on it. I want him to stay on the Wellness chicken can food but he wants nothing to do with it. Does anyone have any suggestions?!?!
answer:
It's important for your cat to keep eating. I would recommend that you provide the dry food for him free choice until he's back to normal and then resume the wet food. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
There is nothing wrong with feeding a good quality dry food to cats. Make sure it's high in protein and has animal source protein as the first ingredient.
Cats can develop a condition called hepatic lipodosis that affects the liver if they fast for too long. This condition can become self perpetuating and lead to long term anorexia and severe weight loss. It's much better to have them eating something as opposed to nothing.
I prefer to feed a combination of wet and dry food. The wet food provides much needed moisture in the diet and that helps long term with urinary tract health.
One other thing. You should consider having him examined to determine the cause of the original problem. It's quite possible that it has nothing to do with the diet.
What did your vet say, did he offer any suggestions at all? Is your cat an indoor cat or outdoor?

If he doesn't like his food for the love of Mary change it, you being stubborn is not helping him at all. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Edited to add: do some research on wet cat food, there is tons of sugar in it and if that's all you feed him you'll rot his teeth out! I'm doubting you really took him to the vet.

Cats have owned me for 30 years.
Will he eat some tuna? My cats have tinned tuna (in oil, but with it drained off) every so often. They love it. Or a bit of cooked chicken?

I don't believe dry food alone is good for a cat - like you, I think they need wet food. Mine have Whiskas or Felix pouches, with about a dozen Go-Cat or Brekkies biscuits. I feed them 3 times a day.

I've had several cats, over the course of 31 years. I've got 3 now
A cat needs a balance of wet and dry food with water. Had you thought of just giving your cat little pieces of chicken to eat - not cooked in oil though. This might give the cats appetite a kick start, and he should go back to eating the Wellness chicken.

Dry food is NOT bad for your cat. Dry food is what you should be feeding him after he hits the adult stage. Then when he wont eat give me wet food. You sure messed up.
First time owning a cat or something?

the only way dry food could be horrible is it was bad or something like that. plus dry food helps clean their teeth and gives them teh proper vitamins and minerals they need.

ive had cats in my life for 15 years.

you mad?
thats funy cuz none of my cats ever got UTIs or sick.
He may associate feeling unwell with the tinned food - don't force him, feed him something else - there is nothing wrong with cat dry food so long as they have lots of water to drink.
Some cat food can be very rich in content and cause diarrhoea.
