My Blue-Point Siamese Won't Let Me Brush Him?
I have to take both my cats, a Ragdoll and Siamese, to the vet and they absolutely love the cats. I want them to both look good, it's just a check-up and some shots, and we're going to find out if Prestyge (Ragdoll) is a boy or girl. We got him from a breeder and she said he is a girl but then she said she screwed up and it wad a boy, so we'll find out for ourselves. Anyways, Epyk (Siamese) will let me get near him with the brush, but not touch him. I usually get a few strokes in but then he runs away.

Epyk attatched to one person, my mom. And then when she's at work, me. My mom gets more strokes with the brush then I do. He bites at the brush and 'beats it up' by hitting it with his paw and jumping on it. Prestyge LOVES to be brush.

I just brushed him. Do all Siamese cats hate to be brushed or is just him? He's very 'snobbish' and we always tease that it's because he was the King or Queen's choice of pets and that he's too good for us. I don't want to hold him down and brush him. He lets me brush him when he is sleeping though.

Any tips on how I can get Epyk to let me brush him?
We have always brushed our cats, from the week after we brought them home.
answer:
I do hope you are using a comb on the long hair cat - never a brush. Siamese can be weird. I suggest you give him a brush to bite and have a flea comb to use to comb him. Take charge - pick the cat up and put it on a table and hold him under the front legs and shoulders when you comb him. Or pin him down holding the shoulders in one hand, comb with the other hand.

Our household pet hates being combed (she's short hair) and I just sit on the floor and pin her down and comb sides and neck/back/tail - despite her protests!
I have a longhair cat and she really loves being groomed. I use a 'zoom groom' - like a brush with rubber teeth, and a comb. Yes, they both are effective.

No, cats do like being brushed but this one may hurt him. We use a pin brush (a slicker brush with little metal prongs). Two of our cats LOVE the thing, one absolutely hates it. I used it on my head to check and yes, the metal ends hurt if pushed down too hard. We switched to a comb for the cat and she lets us get her all over except her belly and tail.

Try a different kind of brush. You can also just make your hands wet and stroke the cat to get loose fur off. They also make those rubber gloves with raised nibs on the palms, for smooth coated cats, the rubber lifts off the loose fur as you pet them.
