A vet said it and a few friends thought he was female. The vet even checked to see if he was male, lmao. This was about when he was 4.
Soo, why?
If he is small and lean (adolescent cats often are) that's what adult females look like. Once he gets older he should get more muscle and look more male. Males look sturdy and thicker generally, its not really an obvious thing but some people pick up on it with out knowing it.
But really if he isn't then its just because people will often refer to most dogs as 'he' and most cats as 'she' because dogs are the more masculine looking animal what cats are very feminine.
And strangely, some people associate a pretty cat with being female, as if a male cat cannot be "pretty".

I think it may be because depending on the owner and how close to their pet they are. Pets tend to act the way they are raised. For example a little child will most likely act like the parent they are closest to. I know a girl that is dumb as a bag of hammers and lazier than a broken axel and she gave me a cat she raised for 3 years. The cat laid by its cat dish all day and by the litter box all night ...
The only way to tell for sure is to look at the cats butt, unless the cat has Calico or Tortoise Shell coat, as these types of cats can only be female. Sooo ... either your cat looks like on of these types, looks girly, or they just don't ask like they should.
cats have always had a Feminine look to them just like dogs have a more masculine look to them.
i have 2 male cats and people ... even vets call them girl and i have a female dog that people call boy.
Because a cat is a feminine pet and its always considered female just like many people always assume a dog is male because its a masculine pet. Also men are called dogs by women haha
Because there aren't really any obvious signs of gender with cats (especially when they're neutered), so when someone guesses there's a 50% chance they 're going to guess wrong?
maybe because he looks like a female cat ..
