If This Is The Most Common Cause Of Death In Cats ...?

How did the vet not catch it? Cardiomyopathy. I checked online and my cat, Groucho (she had a moustache like Groucho Marks .. whoever that is? Mum named her) - anyways, she was fine and then all of a sudden she was acting funny. She barely ate for a few days and then all of a sudden her back legs became paralyzed just a month before her sixth birthday. I felt so terrible. I didn't know what to do and when we got to the vet she said she had no idea what could possibly be wrong, so she sent us home and told us the cat wasn't gonna make it. I was devastated. Its been years and it still makes me cry because she would meow and pee all over herself and we had to keep her in a kennel because I had school and my mum worked and there was nobody to watch her and she passed away while I was gone ... I felt so bad because I couldn't be there to comfort her when she went.

I've heard some odd stories about vets. Why are some of them seemingly so unknowledgable about things they should know tons about? Especially if its a common reason for death among pets.
I am so sorry for your loss. My cat had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Most vets don't think to check for it for some reason. The symptoms are varied and some cases come on much quicker than others. My old guy was 14 when he finally got to the point where we couldn't watch him suffer anymore and had him put to sleep. He would just lay in a basket and not even get up to eat, drink, or use the bathroom. My friend had a cat about the same age as yours and he also had the same thing . At first my cat was diagnosed with a back problem, but at his yearly checkup they noticed a heart murmur and sent us to a specialist. MY friend's cat presented with asthma like symptoms .. and he went down fast. He was having trouble breathing one night and they did x-rays & saw his heart enlarged and did an unltrasound and diagnosed him and he died 3 days later. It's a very tricky disease. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

(Also Groucho Marx was a comedian ... he was one of the Marx brothers, Chico, Zeppo, Harpo, Groucho, and Gummo .. you should check them out ..... funnnnnnyyyyy!!)
Curiosity kills the cats
many vets seen to know about animals but they really don't. that's what gets me mad

i think that if you are going to work in an environment that has to do with animals you also have to know about then.

i have a cat and i just found out that her vet is a Professional meaning that she is just a regular person with no education about animals what so ever. she just gives poor animal shot with out knowing if their right or wrong. so sorry for the death of you cat
im sorry for ur loss. I understand how upseting it can be when u trust somone who charges to fix ur pet but comes up short. i dont think theres a real answer out there for u. it was just a bad mistake. try not to let it eat at u. i hated my vet for a long time after my dog died. he said my dog had a rectal hernia but that it was manageable and fine. he made it sound like no big deal, i came home a few weeks later to my 8 year old dog bleading so bad from his butt and at that point the vet said there was nothing they could do
I'm sorry, my old dog Gracie, a pug, died almost the same way as you poor cat did: .. (she became paralyzed and she would throw up and sometimes fall over before she became paralyzed. We took her to the vet and they didn't know what was going on.My mom told me that the odds of Gracie's survival were slim. I felt so devastated. Then, on Febuary 16, 2007 at 8:00 pm. She had a seizure and died. I was banging my head against the wall, trying to think it was a horrible nightmare and wake up from it. So your not the only one whom the vet told that he couldn't diagnose the cause of your poor cat's death. I hope you feel better!: (
