We brought my kitty to the vet today because she wasn't feeling well for a while, it seems she is so fat that she cannot clean herself properly, making her bum red, swollen and bacteria prone. Meanwhile I have to bath her every week and trim the hair around her private parts, but we really have to make her lose weight. Anyone knows how we can achieve that?, any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you.
Cats are carnivores. Gradually switch her over to a good quality canned diet like Authority from Petsmart. Give her about 3 oz. twice a day - maybe even a little more to start with - and play with her with a laser pointer or feather wand every day. I did this with my cat, and she lost so much weight I was afraid she was sick. Canned food is like the Atkins Diet (Catkins Diet?), except that it's actually appropriate for cats!
Ken S. has some great answers regarding food. But also remember that cats need exercise, too! At least 2 play sessions that are 15 minutes a day. Most cats are bored out of their minds, and that's part of the reason they get so fat.

Get wand toys, a cat dancer, and/or a laser light. Play with her, don't just give her a toy to play with-that won't really get her interested. Cats shouldn't play until they're panting , it should stimulate hunting-playing, stopping, playing, going for the "kill," etc. Try giving her a teeny treat when the session is over so she looks forward to the next one (although not too much since she's overweight !).
Look up "cat household enrichment" on Google to make sure she's mentally/emotionally happy.
I have an overweight cat that the vet has put on a diet. She gets no dry food at all. She gets one 3 ounce can of wet food a day. Half in the morning and the other half in the evening. It didn't sound like enough to me, but she is doing well and is far more active. She has lost a little over 4 pounds in 5 months .
Feeding him twice a day and have water bowl full at all time
feed him half a bowl for dinner a scoop for breakfast and half a scoop for lunch
It is very simple. You don't even have to limit food intake. You just have to feed proper food for the species.

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food. Cats are not naturally big drinkers.
95% of the moisture is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Think about it.
Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck in between.
