any one use the soft paws or claws. do you like them?
i refused to get him declawed
You have to be good at putting them on, but they work. If you can afford it and aren't sure you can get them on properly, most vets and groomers will provide the service. One of our cats learned to soak them off in the water bowl - this may be due to us not doing them correctly or perhaps we got an old batch of adhesive. One of our friends has used them on her cats for years and loves them.
Either way, you need to keep his nails trimmed and start training him not to bite and scratch when he plays. Toys are for hugging and biting, not hands.
I tried soft paws years ago. They tend to fall off. You have to have a cooperative kitty too. Your kitty is young enough, he may be able to learn to cooperate for nail trims. Have a bag of treats ready. Give him one then do just 1 or 2 nails, let him go and give a treat (not a bunch of treats). Slowly work up to the other nails over a few days giving a treat. You can also wrap him in a towel with the head a paw sticking out and do just a nail or two then a treat. At his age you can use people nail clippers, you just have to turn the clippers side ways so the slit is up and down, not across. Just do 1 or 2 eighths of an inch at a time.
They can certainly work well if you can get them on and keep them on. The main thing you need to do is get your kitten hooked on wand toys and other appropriate outlets for his playfulness. Once cats decide that humans flesh is the best toy ever it can be a hard habit to cure.
