I was playing with him and I looked at my hand and it was covered in hair.
Does this usually happen to short hairs?
This is only my second cat so I don't know much.
They do shed in spring and some in fall.
Siamese don't tend to shed a lot since they only have a very short single coat, they don't have the undercoat of most cats. Just wetting your hands and petting them can get a lot of the fur off.
Here is the kind of brush to use for them

Avoid using a wire slicker brush on a Siamese or you will ruin the coat colour - anyway with their short flat coat they dont 'even need it. And they absolutely do not need drastic things like the Furminator.

Your cat's breeder may have some other ideas.
(Of course there are also domestic shorthairs with Siamese colouring, and they usually do have a double coat like most cats, so there's more to shed, and you may need to use some other kind of grooming tools on them)
Cats have two major shedding times, the big one at the start of summer, and a fall shed out of the summer coat. If the shedding is super heavy and continues, that means they need better nutrition in their daily food since it's affecting the quality of their skin.
I have a siamese, she will coat your hand with fur if your hand is wet, but if you brush her, not much comes off. Except in June. That's her heavy shed here in Wisconsin.
A lot of times too, if you put an animal, not only cats, on a better diet than they had been on, they will shed all the unhealthy hair to gain a beautiful newer coat. This is especially true with malnourished, or starved animals and usually takes about 2 months to happen. Shedding twice a year, some more than others, is very common. For short haired cats, I find it useful to use a damp rag to wipe them with as part of grooming, which helps tremendously, and a slicker brush or other shedding tool. They also have new comb that a lot of people rave about called a fur buster (Link:
