My 4 year old male cat attacks my landlord, to the point of bloodshed. HELP!!?
My 4 year old cat Finn, has attacked my landlord to the point of bloodshed. We rent the top of a house, and I often leave the apartment door open allowing both my cats access to the stairs, hallway and foyer. My landlord is an older gentleman, who loves animals. He has a small dog who he walks daily, besides running around doing normal daily activities. I recently got a note from his wife, disallowing Finn to go in the hallway. (The other cat is still allowed) I'm very concerned about Finns violent actions toward Bill (landlord) I cant understand it, and if I hadn't seen the extremely deep scratch wounds, I would say its not true. Why would my normally super friendly and lovey boy be so violent toward one person. I wont have him declawed as I believe its mean and is to no benefit to the cat. I'm also upset that he no longer has free reign of the house, giving him less room to run and play. My husband thinks perhaps as a male with the sent of male dog urine on Bills shoes that it may be a dominant male cat behavior . The cat and dog have had contact. They normally give a sniff to each other, and keep it moving.

I would love to hear back, and see if there is anyone with possible insight, or a solution. I also have two little girls 11 and 7.....I hope I don't need to be concerned that he will become violent in nature as he gets older. (he has scratched them, but in genuine defense). Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
Keep it in a cage, just like any cat like a tiger or lion would attack
Is Finn neutered? If not, getting him neutered might help with his aggression. Please don't be upset that he no longer has free reign of the house. Cats are basically wild animals and sometimes need to be supervised. One of my cats will get a little vicious if he is bothered. I make sure that he is supervised with guests in my home.
It could be the scent of the male dog. I have never heard of a cat acting like that.. Was this a one time incident, or has this happened before? If not, maybe your landlord stepped on his tail or foot causing this reaction.. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Maybe you should ask a local pet trainer for more advice.
Thats one mad pussy!
Its obviously his nature, he is a aggressive, sorry to ruin it for you but you might of scratched your landlord in ''genuine defense'' because he smelled like dog or was doing something that seemed so called ''threatening'' to the cat, I remember when my friend had a kitten and later one day I wanted to pet him and he stratched me on the face and hissed at me, it hurt alot, AND I was just going to pet him on the head! BTW, I did have the scent of dog on me so she might of been threatened, same thing might of happened to your little cat, I dont think she'll get violent as she gets older but its best to keep your cat away from the landlord its causing stress for you, the cat, and the landlord and his wife! You can also try taking obedence lessens if the cat keeps up his strange behavior or makes it worse. I hope you find a solution to your problem!
NO you do not need to put it in a cage!!! That would only make him aggressive! DUH i think you need to pay more attention to your cat and if he isn't neutered he needs to be.
