If cats always land on their feet, why can't they just jump off the tree?
Is it because they don't know they are gonna land on their feet, or are they scared, or what?

Thanks!!
I don't know! Have you tried it yet? Lol... J/K

Fear of not knowing. just like you were the first time you were faced with doing something new.

Most cats that do climb a tree do jump down. If your cat won't come down there are a few reasons:
1.) Your cat simply doesn't want to come down yet.
2.) It is exhausted from climbing it in the first place.
3.) It could be trying to hide.
4.) It might just not like you.
Of course all of the above answers relate to number 1 in some way.
just because they land on their feet doesnt mean it wouldnt hurt! they could still brake their leg or hurt their paw if they jump from a tree. plus cats dont always get stuck in trees.
Most likely it's simply to high for the cat. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Therefore cats tend to climb down again until they feel convenient with the distance to the ground. And then a cat will jump down.

Cats are smart, and therefore they are not going to risk anything since having fractures and/or wounds are most likely fatal for cats. They know very well that 99 % of humans would not bring them to a vet.
They donot possess paws like monkey.
They can but sometime they notice they have gotten to far high and they tend to freak out.
Most of the time they just don't want to come down.
Mine did it once and she wouldn't come down for some reason moments later realized poor thing had no idea how to get down. Made me wonder why she climbed in first place. I had to bring out a chair and gently take her down because she was too terrified to even move.
