my cat is 3 years old .. has never had problems before with his third eyelid .. i noticed it yesterday so kept him in since i noticed it as they are half way across his eyes most the time but will sometimes go down a little bit .. also i noticed on observation that his right one is torn .. could this really affect both of them or is there something underlining it .. he will be going to the vets but cant make it there till monday: (anyone know what could be be wrong with his eyes. an if there is anything i can do in the mean time ..

OMG! Take your cat to the Emergency Vet. Permanent damage could certainly be happening from the torn third eyelid!



The one that is up - the Emergency Vet will start by squirting Sterile Eye Irrigating solution into that eye as the third eyelid may be up due to debris in the eye. If it's "stuck" debris, it will be more fragile of a situation for the vet to get out.



Please, please take your cat to the Emergency Vet or get an appointment with any vet that is available now or within the hour at most. Your cat is suffering tremendously with a torn third eyelid and super uncomfortable if has debris in the other eye.



Oh please take your baby to a vet now - I have a cat born with no upper eyelids, by the time I got her into foster (another foster had her and never took her to get the surgery), her eyes were damaged, but she went forth with the major double eye surgery anyways (to create eyelids by removing from below and sewing into where the eyelids should be). She does have permanent eye damage for life because the hair was growing into the eyes (kind of like "entropian" ;, but not - lol)



Anyways, PLEASE take your cat now to the Vet! Please?

Third eye lids usually mean a problem. Sometimes a bad cold or damage to the eye itself. If its a cold it will be normal by Monday. If there is physical damage to the eye itself it will get worse. The third lid will cover the whole eye. Make sure you keep that appointment, it could be something that you just couldn't guess.
