How large are your litter boxes?
My 12 cats don't like covered boxes (hold the nasty odor inside and they don't like it), and "regular" litter boxes are too shallow/too expensive, SO ..........
I went to Walmart and bought 8 large (blanket storage size) plastic Sterilite "totes" for $ 4. Each. These are 18 gallon size and are large/deep enough that even my largest, tallest cat can't "spew" over the sides ..... he can pee/poop and turn around to cover, without stepping IN it, and the litter stays INSIDE the box!!
Since the boxes are large & deep, they hold quite a bit of litter. The deeper the litter, the more of the poop/pee will get covered completely (less, or no, odor )...... and these boxes are extremely easy to clean.
The "rule of thumb" is 1 box PER cat + 1 extra ....... but, since I use such LARGE boxes (and deep litter), I don't have that odor problem. I have 12 cats and 8 boxes ....... but, since I clean any "deposit" that I see/smell AS SOON AS I NOTICE IT ....... the cats are happy & so am I. ... .

If you think you need an "odor eliminator", try sprinkling some Arm & Hammer Litter Deodorizer over the MULTIPLE CAT LITTER ....... I use Fresh Step for Multiple Cats. Some cats prefer an "odorless" litter , but mine don't care if I use a litter with an odor, as long as I keep it clean!
Hope this give you an alternative to your litter boxes ...... and the odor is better contained ... Good luck.
My aunt has a house with probably 10 cats (and it's a small house). It actually doesn't smell!
She gives her cats the Pet Beverage (which I now give to my 2 dogs). You just add a couple ounces of it to their water and it helps with their body odor, bad breath and helps reduce urine and poop odors!
http://www.bioworldusa.com/household/pet ... She gets the Pet Beverage Special that comes with this little spray bottle of their odor neutralizer, and when she does notice an odor coming, or is having guest over and just wants to make sure it's fresh, she will spray it in their litter boxes and sometimes even on the cats!
I use the "multi-cat" scoopable litter and scoop pretty often, also, I use pan liners and change those frequently too.

You can add "litter box" deoderizer and use a citrus scented room deoderizer if possible?
I never have an oder unless its been awhile since I cleaned the box
i have one cat one litter box what i do is go to pet smart/pet co/pet supplies plus and pet supply store and buy something called litter box deodorizer put it in there after you clean the litter box and it helps or just put backing soda in it and it may just be the litter
you could sprinkle a little baby powder in the litter box when cleaning it and scoop it everyday or second day .. perhaps tho you have a big odor because of what they are eating. Also male cats create more of an odor when going to the washroom then female cats do.
Use "Scoop Away" cat litter, with the purple label. it has a nice smell and it is the ONLY litter that keeps the smell down when changed daily. I have 3 cats, one of which is a 20 pound fattie, who poops way to much and it works for me.
Change the type/brand of litter.
Scoop more often.

Feed a high quality canned and dry food.
Be sure the cats are drinking enough water.
I use Tidy Cats Small spaces clumping litter. I have 2 cats and 2 boxes, no smell. I scoop EVERY DAY
=^^=
Try different multi cat litters until you find one that works good for you. I use Worlds Best Litter and it is expensive, but doesn '; t smell.
Simply just get different litter.
do not think more
leave smelling Big Odor
Clean the boxes.
Maybe more cats would help?
