I just dropped my cat off at the vet, I gave him milk this morning. The vet had a new girl working when I called to schedule his apointment and she didnt tell me to have him fast. I just realized he probably should have. So I called my vet and told them he had some milk, she said she would let the doctor know and if he didnt feel ok about it he would not do it. She also made it sound like it was ok because it was milk and not solid food. Are there any professional vetenarans that can answer this question? Also he is being declawed. And they just told him when I baught him in he had to stay over night because of being declawed. I dont like this. Ive never had to leave a cat over night. What is the deal with this?
Cats should not have milk to begin with and milk turns into a solid once it gets in the stomach acids which coagulate it into a sour glob. Cats getting declawed stay overnight, this is normal proceedure. Any time an animal or person is getting put under anesthesia they should have nothing by mouth for 8-12 hours before it so the stomach is empty. This is so there is less chance of vometing which can be aspirated into the lungs when laying on the back. Good that you told them so they can watch for vometing and suction it out before the cat chokes on it ...
Since your cat is being BOTH neutered and declawed, he has to stay overnight. The vet has to keep a close watch on him to make sure he's recovering okay, just in case, God forbid, he has complications after his surgery. When I got my cat neutered, the vet had informed me to make him fast for 12 hours prior to his surgery. Reason being, so he doesn't vomit out any of the food during the surgery (while he's sleeping.)
u should not feed from 8pm the night befor if u were having surgery u no to fast because u will be sick if not after it my kitten misty is getting spay on thursday she going to be fast from 8pm on wedesday night the vet has told me u should have say it to vet they would of put it off till evening or next morning i tray a feral cat to get spayed but to get her i had to give food in tray and they did her the evening time i told them i feed her that why
