Is it time to put her down?

My cat is 21 + years old. She can barely see and has lost the sence of smell. She can still hear, but it has to be a little louder than normal.

She finds her way around the house and she doesn't seem to be in pain (not limping, when we touch her she doesn't react). She sleeps with me on the bed and it comforts her because we both work and she's alone during the day (we had two other cats but they had to be put down). She's adjusted to being alone since she was alone for many years before we adopted her.

My question is this, when would you consider is a good time to put her down? Either she throws up daily or every 3-4 days - its irregular.

She's still functional, from what I see. She still goes to the litter but, due to her eyesight, she often misses the target (we had to put dog pee pads around the litter to avoid having a large puddle - it works).

My hubby thinks its time but I don't see it. Is he right and I am making her suffer?
Hi there

I think as long as your Cat is not in any pain and can still enjoy some quality of life I do not see the need to put her down. You have to trust your own judgement. You say she is throwing up daily, is it fur balls? has she been to the vet? Why is she being sick? I am assuming she has been to the vet. My cat Sooty was 28 when she died I got her when I was 2 she lost her eyesight and you had to shout so she could hear you but she still enjoyed being cuddled and petted and slept on my bed.

As long as she is eating, drinking and not passing any blood when she goes to the toilet. And as long as she is in no pain she is still enjoying some quality of life. I know its hard to know what to do for the best .

Give her lots of cuddles and a kiss from me x
You are certainly not making her suffer. All her problems come with the age and since they aren't causing her some severe problems or pain, she is fine. As you wrote , she got used to her handicaps and seems to be doing well. The decision to have a pet put down is very difficult and should always be based on a very serious reason. If an animal is suffering, it's better to have it put down. But I don't think your cat is the case.
I don't think it's the time if you say that she doesn't seem to be in pain and that she still can function by herself.Actually, she probably will give you the answer herself, because animals often sense when they have just a few days to live, and they don't eat and move much. However, if you're still unsure, you should check the vet's opinion on that, he can tell you if the cat suffers.
don't listen to your hubby or whatsoever! you can't just throw her way she can't almost see she will die in the streets.a car can ran over her! it's dangerous !! btw, take her to a vet
As long as she isn't in any pain, I wouldn't put her down.
Wow, that is one old cat. At that age your cat could just have a heart attack and die peacefully in its sleep. It doesn't sound to me like it is quite her time yet. It doesn't sound like she is suffering much from your description.

I recently had to put my 17-year-old cat to sleep. She had many of the same issues as your cat but also had an issue (probably a stroke) causing her to spin in circles constantly. Poor thing was in confusion often, which was getting worse. Not wanting her to suffer unduly in her remaining time (her kidneys also were failing, she probably would've died naturally within a few months) I made the very difficult decision to have her put to sleep.
You said your cat isn't in any pain ... I don't see a reason to put her down. There are tons of deaf, and blind people in the world. The same goes for the cat, she can manage, she just might need some extra help every now and then. If she can still enjoy life, let her live it. She will let you know when it's time to go (when it's time they usually find somewhere quiet-hide). As far as her throwing up ... maybe it has something to do with cat food or something? Maybe you can call and ask a vet about it.

Well, good luck with your kitty.:)
