what are some herbal medicines for cats with hyperthyroidism

My cat is 14yrs old and has shown most of the signs for hyperthyroidism (not hypothyroidism). If I had enough money I would buy him prescription medication instead. If anyone knows of any reliable products I can buy online or in a pet store, please let me know. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Not advisable. And did your vet diagnose the cat with hyperthyroidism? Or you just think thats what it is?? If the vet did bloodwork and diagnosed it then they can give you information on medications, etc. Also if you find the medication theyre prescribing cheaper from a company, they can just write you a prescription. If youre just thinking the cat has hyperthyroidism because its skinny and old and losing hair, then it could be something else completely. Definitely worth a call or trip to the vet. You dont want to start messing around with herbs and holistic remedies without first talking to a vet.
No. Sorry. Hyperthyroid isn't something that can be helped with herbs, holistic remedies or a good diet. It's a hormonal imbalance probably caused by her age.

There's no way to "kick start" the thyroid with herbs. There's no herbal substitution for those hormones. The medications replace the missing hormone. There's no substitute.

Besides - herbs aren't cheap. If you can afford the herbal supplements, you can afford vet care and prescriptions.

You can do general things to make him more comfortable. Warm, soft, nutritious food. Warm places to sleep. Stress free living away from other pets and children that may annoy her. Tell everyone who comes to your house that she's old and has the right to refuse contact.

EDIT TO ADD:

Please, please, please think twice about using the "snake oil" the first answer offers.

Please, please, please use common sense and don't just grab at straws.

Really? Read some of it. It cures: Thyroid problems, hyperactivity, nervousness and shedding ... really? What next? Will it realign the planets and lead to world peace?

Ridiculous!

Save your money for a prescription.
Sorry, there aren't any.

It's pills or irradiation, and the irradiation costs over a grand (but then no more treatment needed, ever).

The longer kitty goes without treatment, the shorter it's lifespan will be, since hyperthyroidism burns out the organs. Kitty would eventually go into organ failure and die.

Check these out. That's all I can do to help. I hope this works well and your cat gets better .... Good luck.
The pills that are often used for treatment have many side-effects, some of which are lethal. Surgery is an option, but vets say that it may not cure the problem. Radioactive Iodine treatment is believed by vets to work almost 99% to cure hyperthyroidism in cats. The pills are the cheapest method, but are dangerous. Surgery is risky & may not fix the problem. The iodine treatment works, but can cost $ 2,000.00 Firstly, I think it's best to take your cat to a vet for a full checkup + blood work so that you know for certain what is wrong.

I'm going to tell you about our cat Molly, who had hyperthyroidism.

For us, it costed $ 200.00 for a full vet exam for Molly, but it wasn't a waste because we knew for certain that our cat had hyperthyroidism. We refused the conventional treatments & dangerous pill prescription-I was NOT going to have my dear cat suffer the hazardous side-effects from that! One of the pill prescription side-effects was complete kidney blowout (both kidneys shut down causing pain & premature death). I was terrified by that, so I refused what the vets offered. Surgery was out of the question because it's painful & doesn't guarantee it'll work. The iodine was out of our budget, unfortunately. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

We did research & found Only Natural Pet Thyroid Wellness Feline, an herbal alternative. Within 2-3 weeks, her yowling had nearly stopped, no more litter box problems & she had gained weight. Molly did great & I know that herb helped her! I don't want to sound like a TV commercial or anything for saying this.

There IS a natural alternative to most illnesses. Which is no surprise because we are organic beings. Chemicals do not belong in our bodies, period. Natural herbs are a preventative against illness. Once an illness has occurred, treating it may take time. Not all cats will respond the same to any treatment. Herbs may not cure the problem, but they can help the problem. Heck, doctor prescribed drugs may not cure the problem, but they can help ... with added side-effects usually.
