Meghan, the best way to care for him/her is to keep them very comfortable, or as comfortable as possible, remember this is surgery. Keep the Vet, ??s office number on hand incase of emergency, and make sure to put him/her in a clean safe spot away from anything that might pose a threat. After you, ??ve done all that, I, ??m sure you can take on the rest of the responsibilities.
PS, you, ??re doing a great thing for your kitten by getting him/her Spayed/Neutered. You, ??re a great mother to the kitten (s).
Everyone's given great advice. The two things I want to mention however :
1) Don't wash the area or even hot soak it unless you've OK'ed it with your vet
2) Watch your kitten and make sure they don't bite/claw the area. This is especially important a couple days after surgery when things heal and get itchy. I've heard this happening more in dogs, but people have had animals that actually pulled out their stitches because it itched so much. If this happens, ask the vet for anti-inflammatory drugs and a "cone" to put around their head so that they can't bite.
The boys do pretty good and do not really need much after care

girls tho have stitches so you gotta keep an eye on those and try to keep her a little calm not to be jumping around that could break her stitches open.
Also depends if your vet keeps the kitty overnight or they go home same afternoon.
My girl stayed overnight and was okay the next day but she broke her stitches a week later. The first couple of days she seemed to be more slower getting on the couch but days later she was jumping around like her usual self.
I had my boy neutered at a different vet and he went home same day. They said to give him a little water 2 hrs after coming home then wait and if he keeps that down feed him a little food. He did fine and no ill effects and no problems at all.
Best thing to do is leave the cat alone and do not encourage excessive activity. The cat will determine for itself what it's limitation are during the recuperative period.
And if the cat is an outdoor animal keep it in the house for at least 10 days. Other than that, all you have to do is inspect the surgery site every day to make sure the cat is healing properly.

The cat can still sit on your lap but don't let it jump to the floor and have it lay on something you can wash - because the wound site will 'weep' a bit for the first couple of days.
Make sure you follow the vet's instructions completely. Wash the area and make sure it's 100% dry to keep from infection. Give her a warm place to sleep after she comes home since they cannot regulate their body temperature when they're on anesthesia. You can give her baby aspirin while she's healing if she seems to be in pain or distress.
The vet should give u an option to buy kitty pain pills, there is also special litter u should get to insure the wound doesnt get infected, ur vet shoukd have that too ... otherwise any organic litter will do. Besides that just give ur kitty time they will most likley want to be alone and hidden for a few days till they feel better ..... good luck
They usually heal up pretty quickly. Just follow whatever advice the vet gave you and check the suture area frequently to make sure it's kept clean. Glad to hear you got (or are getting) your kittens spayed!
males and females are different. make sure they are not licking at wounds too much and give them a dark cool room to recover in!
Follow the vet's advise.
