I know someone who has a farm and has a couple litters of cats per year. Since the owner feels that no one will take the kittens and that the SPCP already has too many cats, he uses a shot gun to kill them. I'm appalled by this. He says he sees no other way and he doesn't want to get them "fixed". Any solutions?

He needs to get them altered. That cannot continue. Report his actions.
Contact all your local cat charities and see if any of them can help. You could even offer to help too (through the charity). In the UK there are animal charities that will trap farm cats, get them checked over by a vet and neutered, then return them to the farm. If any of the cats are pregnant they stay in isolation at the shelter (usually in a bedroom in a volunteers home) , until the kittens are eight weeks old and weaned. The kittens are given as much human contact as possible to socialise them so they can be rehomed with people who want outdoor cats. If the farmer doesn't want the cats back after treatment, it doesn't matter because the other farmers who use this scheme (completely free to the farmer) will find that after a few years their feral/farm cats begin to die out and they can phone up the charity for a new supply.

no, that's a bad idea, sure, he deserves to be shot, but you don't deserve to go to jail. so here's what you can do without losing your freedom; take it to the police and have him arrested. there are many non kill shelters out there and the farmer knows it. he's just a sadist and wouldn't shot his own kids because then he'll go to jail, but he figures he can get away with killing the kittens.
just make sure he doesn't shoot you, too.
Report his address to the local aspca or humane society anonymously and they will come and take the cats, spay and neuter them and find homes for them ... you are absolutely right to be appalled! With all of the free spay and neuter programs out there, it would take very little effort on his part to get the cats fixed .... some groups even come out and trap the cats for you and re-release them after the procedures (I volunteer for such a group, and I do just that ... especially on farms where the cats basically are wild) ... sounds like he is just a lazy, sick man ... hope this helps. ..
I would call down to the local News station and report him immediately. Somebody at the station will make it a headline news and would want to speak to him. I bet if he's name and what he's doing goes public; he would stop right away and would feel embarrassed by his actions. Yeah, the news station will know how to help with finding a home for those kittens.

Ever heard this saying before, "treat others as you would want to be treated?" I guess he wants to get shot and killed by a shotgun.
Another option is to post an ad on craigslist ... local papers ... spread the word through family, friends and co-workers, etc. if that does not work report him!!
Report the son of a *****. He has no right to end the kittens lives just because he is stupid and doesn't get the cats fixed.
