should I leave the tv on for my cat when she is home alone?

I know people who do this for dogs but is it just as comforting for cats?

I had to talk my son out of getting her a pay per view movie!

What about one of the ones that make it look like a fish tank?
Cat's don't give a damn whether you're gone or not. Just leave her a bowl of dried food and fresh water, and eventually a black sweater and she will eat and sleep in a corner.
Cats have better hearing than dogs, so what we hear as a quiet house isn't really quiet to a cat. If you think about how quiet it is during the night when cats are usually out and about in nature they probably don't care much about the tv or radio being on. I'd say if the cat ignores the tv and radio when you are at home then it probably ignores them when you are away too.
TV? Comforting?? what no! what if guns are on tv boom boom will not be comforting plus waste of electricity! aometimes radio or one QUIET song on replyay but if you cats not into it dont do it i would just leave it off torture all day for the poor kitty.
i would leave one of those fish lights on. the tv might be a comfort too, but i see it as a waste of electricity. the lady who used to live in my dad's downstairs apartment did not pay rent or electricity and she would leave all her lights on and her tv for her stupid pissing and shitting chihuahua mutts every time she left the house, which was often for hours at a time even though she had a very old black lab that howled for help to get up every 5 minutes.
People don't have the 1st clue what animals want. Who ever got the stupid idea that the TV was "comforting" should be shot. For all we know, with their sensitive hearing, it's torture all day.

I say leave it as their surroundings have been for THOUSANDS OF YEARS ... as quiet as a normal day in the woods.
I don't know about a fish tank. Are the fishes moving? That could be nice. Cats love watching small things moving quick, but she might try to leap at it.

cats don't care about tv. i had two and they never gave it a look. they usually like quiet so they can sleep in peace.
Well it really depends on the cat, usually its comforting to older cats to leave some music or something on, younger cats dont usually care, just leave them a couple poofy toys and they should be set!:)
My cats don't really care about the TV, no matter what's on it. If I change it to animal planet, still no reaction. I'm not sure if you should leave it on or not. Have your cat decide.
That all depends on the cat. Some cats like the noise (even if it's music or a fish tank), and others .. not so much. It's all in how much you know about your cat.
I think its a good idea. If it works for kids it may very well work for kitties!
Good idea , or the radio. I usually leave the TV on for my dogs, and the radio for the cats ...
No, just leave a radio on.
