Why do cats cost less to take care of than dogs?

A bag of cat food cost around $ 3 - $ 5, tuna fish/chicken is anywhere from 49c-99c a can, their toys are cheaper as well. But dog food is anywhere from $ 15 - $ 19, their toys are mos expensive, even Grooming them is more expensive. Why is this? Cats cause more damage anyways.
I've found the dog food costs around the same as cat food, per pound. Obviously a 20 pound bag of dog food costs more than a 5 pound bag of cat food. But cats do eat less. Other than that, veterinary expenses can cost just as much. My dog doesn't get groomed and neither does my cat so they're even there also.

I will agree that toys are cheaper. And so are beds if you have a big dog. However in my world the dog does more damage.
It's cheap. Cats are typically laid-back creatures. Dogs are energetic and they live longer , and grow larger. They need more nutrients. Also, dogs come in more varieties and types, and the packaging must be unique regarding your dogs breed, size, age, ect.

And no, thats a bad stereotype. Cats do not cause alot of damage. In fact, i'd say dogs cause more. They run around and get everything dirty. You can always buy a cat toys to scratch.

EDIT: And yes, of course Pandas are better. They're white, black, AND Asian. You can't top that.
Au contraire, mon ami Panda; I have a stack of vet bills for my two cats that the dog doesn't have a hope in Hell of ever matching unless HE gets pregnant. The resident foxes and coyotes keep putting holes in my cats and my vet charges for plugging these holes up for them. And the one cat has repaid me by stepping in front of a car and breaking his leg. An injury that I keep throwing money at that he will never fully recover from.

My cats have caused no damage to my residence at all. They earn every penny that I spend on them, too, by catching the mice and gophers that infest the part of the country I live in.
Yes - a bag of GARBAGE food costs that little. Same size of crappy dog food costs the same. My cat's food costs me $ 39.99 for a 12 pound bag. Tuna fish? That should never be given to cats.

And grooming? My dog doesn't require a groomer while my cat often does and it's $ 60 each time.
They are smaller, so smaller quantities.

They don't require a yearly heartworm test (but do need monthly heartworm prevention!)

They rarely have joint or bone dysfunction.

But the difference is not much.
They don't cost much less than dogs.

Scratching posts can cost a LOT.

Cats also need litter, which dogs don't need.

Anyways, taking care of any animal isn't cheap. Just medical and vet expenses can cost mucho money $$$.
Reasons:

They stink.

They scratch my brand new couch!

They crap indoors .... (litter pan ... it's still indoors!!)

They get fur everywhere.

You have to bathe them - or you get allergys .... Have fun bathing that furry little monster.

They stink ... oh wait, I said that already.
