I've been feeding this feral cat for a while. He's always at my house .. but the last two days he really hasn't been coming around and i'm so worried about him.
For the last month, he's been losing his hair in little patches. He's been itching excessively. I treated him for fleas already with advantage. For the last couple days, he has bumps covering his ENTIRE BODY. He's been itching and making his skin bleed . He's losing even more hair in patches .. He looks terrible. His eyes are even getting swollen. He doesn't look like the same cat. He has been eating ... but not the last day or two because he hasn't been around. I know he's uncomfortable and in pain.
I called to make him a vet appt .. but I have to catch this cat first. I've been trying to catch him all weekend with a live trap .. and every other way. It's a lot easier said then done.
Does anyone know what this could be? I'm so worried about him.
You're one in a million, kudos to you. It does sound like an allergic reaction to me. Poor guy. Since he's been treated for fleas and it's only getting worse, I suspect fleas aren't the issue. Maybe it's something in the food or something in the environment. Maybe you can call your vet and ask for a dose of benadryl for him until you can trap him. If he 'll eat canned food perhaps you can mash it and put it in the food or get the liquid and mix in. Obviously a vet visit is your best option though .. Good luck!
allergic reaction is what it sounds like to me
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com you should definatly find him and take him to the vet!!!
it could be serious .. but you have been doing everything you can
to help him. I lost a cat a couple months ago .. it was a siamese and it was losing it's
hair around his neck. maybe you found him? if you live in alberta canada then maybe haha.
anyways, fur loss is stress related usually, or from poor diet which is likely considering it is a stray cat. the flea medication you used most likely gave the cat an allergic reaction. if you find the cat and wanna help him to be more comfortable , you can give him a bath .. but you need to make sure you are washing him thoroughly in order to get the medication out of his fur and off his skin. it can be serious though, cats can have seizures when going through an allergic reaction but it doesn't happen everytime. If the cat was shaking or foaming at the mouth or yowling then i would say it doesn't look good ..
take care, and i really hope you find him and help him out=]
its possibly mange, if you can catch him the vwet will probbably do a bacterial swab and give him antibiotics
be careful because it can be spread to humans also! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
