My friend is selling kittens?
my friend well his mom is selling these kittens for $75 each. they r microchiped and fixed and have their shots and r 3 months old. but they dont have papers or nothin. like their mom is just some stray n his mom is tryin to sell em for money! like when we bought our dog he came with papers and stuff but my friend's cat doesn't have that. should i tell my mom to call the cops cuz shes scamming people? in the paper it says "selling kittens to good home. $75. microchipped, altered, and current with vaccinations. call _________" (not gunna put his number up). but like yeah they got all that stuff but they aren't like a breed or nothin. is it legal to sell these kittens w/o papers? i read somewhere that people go to jail for this stuff cuz they are sellin animals without papers. should i tell my friend to tell his mom she might get in trouble for this? i mean like hes my friend i dont want to get him in trouble but if they are doin illegal stuff i should tell someone right?
answer: Don t worry there is nothing illegal about it at all, and I'm glad his mom was so responsible to get a stray cat's kittens altered, vaccinated and microchipped! that is great of her. I'm sure she is not making money on this, just trying to make back some of the vet costs and ensure that they go to someone who really wants them.
Something isn't right. If she had them chipped and spayed/neutered then they should each come with a certificate proving that. If she doesn't have any of them, then I would be suspicious. I don't think any person (unless they're incredibly naive) would buy from her without proof of such a claim.

ALL cats, when spayed/neutered, vaccinated and chipped, come with certificates for each separate event.
If she doesn't have the papers, she can't claim the above.
Um, no. It's not illegal to sell any animal just because it "doesn't have papers." There is no scam. She's not telling people that the animals are purebred and I doubt she's making money. $75 isn't enough to cover spaying/neutering, microchipping, and vaccinations. She actually being a very responsible person. She deserves to be thanked, not to have false charges brought against her.
The $75 that your friend's mother is charging is NOT for the cat -- it's for the veterinary care she put into the cat. I'm glad she put that much time, effort, and money into them.
Nothing illegal if they are what she says they are. They don't have to have papers for her to sell them.
nothing illegal, as far as i know.
Oh please. Your friend's mom is one of the rare people that actually took the time, money and effort to spay and neuter the kittens before she gave them away. And these are kittens from a pregnant stray cat. So it's not like she irresponsibly allowed her cat to breed. She probably WILL give them papers - not pedigree papers - but papers that will show the medical history - date of spay/neuter, shots, etc. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Do you know how much it probably cost her to get all these kittens altered and their shots and chipped? At least $200 for EACH KITTEN. She's probably out a a thousand bucks for this litter! She's only trying to recover SOME of the costs. Shelters do the same. The shelter I volunteer with does all those things PLUS testing for FeLv and FIV as well as deworming and defleaing. It costs them about $400 per kitten yet they only charge $100 to adopt a cat or kitten.
The fact she spayed them is BEYOND commendable. So many people don't and hand out unaltered cats then go on to breed, rebreed, their kittens breed, rebreed and so on. Did you know in just seven year's time a mother cat and her litter can theoretically turn into 420,000 kittens????
Instead of acting like this woman did something wrong THANK her for being a responsible person. And help her find homes for these kittens. And if you want something to ***** about then look at all the questions on here from people with sick and injured pets or pregnant cats because they didn't bother to spay and neuter.
She's not doing anything illegal. If I were to get a "free" kitten and take it to the vet to get the first set of shots, a microchip, and spay/neuter it would cost me a lot more than $75 to do all that stuff (just the exam alone without any surgery or shots is $40). I might be able to get it for that cheap if I went through animal control and their low-cost spay/neuter day. Shoot, to adopt a 3 month old kitten from the local humane society is $100 and most of them are just strays off the street that have had some vaccinations and been altered and microchipped. Even an adult cat is $50 to adopt from the shelter.
