Often when I try to walk around the house, my cat runs quickly to cut me off at the pass and almost trips me to get in front of me. Why does my cat prefer me to follow her? I don't have that problem with my dog, he will usually give me the right of way. He is such a friendly gentleman and she's such a rude tramp!

She thinks she knows where you are going and wants to get there first. Try suddenly taking a turn and see how she reacts. It'll be funny.

Maybe cause actually its YOU thats stalking your cat and not the other way round ?

I think its a way of attension seeking so you'll feed them

Yeah thats what happened to me and she raced in front of me and i turned the other way. It was so funny!
The reason why your cat follows in front of you is because she probably wants to race you.
Try turning the other way when she races in front of you!

One of my cats does that. It's like she has to lead the way wherever I go. It's like she's announcing me to the other cats: "Make way for the Queen. Yes, I'm with her, the Queen." (It's like she sees me as royalty and wants the other to know we're "tight". LOL!! "DON'T TRIP THE QUEEN, FLUFFY!!!" LOL!!! (She trips me, too often, when she doesn't walk fast enough.)

I don't know of a remedy yet.

Some breeds of cats are actually known for this behavior..we have a Nebelung (basically a long haired Russian Blue) at the shelter where I volunteer, and she does this! I'm assuming it's a need for affection (Nebelungs are very affectionate) or attention.

I have the same problem with my cat! if it's before she wants you to feed her, then she's directing you to her food. if not, she probably just wants you to follow her and she wants to make the decisions! or she wants to play with you!!

don't get frustrated with her and enjoy this time together! these are good memories to have (take it from someone who gets up at 2 a.m. for their cat!)
