Why does my cat eat everything on the floor?
Shes about a year and a half old and she always eats any little peices of paper or candy wrappers or anything she can find! I thought this was just a kitten thing but she hasn't stopped yet! Wondering if she will maybe grow out of it or not? Or maybe my cat is just weird I don't know!? Thanks!
ur cat just loves things on the floor... pretty natural.
Please be very careful about what falls on the floor. Cats this young are playful and all cats will go for the kinds of things u describe. Also food wrappers smell like food and tempt her, In the shelter I work I hear so many sad stories, cats needing emergency expensive and painful surgery from eating foreign objects, u name it, string, wrappers, thread ,tinsel , etc. go on line and get a list of foods and other things dangerous to cats. They are natural hunters it is their nature to do this. Think "baby proofing" ur home as if u had a curious and crawling 9 or 10 mo. old baby loose on the floor. Also she may be hungry, try offering a bit more food ,cat treats or / and toys to keep her busy. She is not weird . She is acting like a cat who does not think like we do. Make her toys for free . Take a pair of clean socks that u no longer need. ( DO NOT wash in bleach first.) just a bit of soap and rinse well and dry thoroughly.... put a little cat nip inside a sock. Tie the sock in a knot (the longer socks work best for this). Let her discover it herself or throw it to her to catch and watch the fun. Non toxic and just about free except for the cat nip of which u dont need much.. some playful cats will even enjoy the sock in a knot without the cat nip , but the catnip really helps. This will help keep her busy. Hope she is spayed at her age, it makes the world of difference in so many ways, go on line and research the plus factor of spaying ALso look for lo cost spay and neuter programs in ur area.. Good luck and thanks for caring about and loving this kitty....

hahaha. i've had so many cats in my life, and they almost all do it. don't worry. it's not strange. what's happening is when they are playing with the little things on the floor they try to bite them and then they just end up eating them, just to see how it'll taste. basically you have to treat a playful cat (or dog) like a baby....if they can put it in their mouth, they will. and if they can swallow it...they will. :) hope this helps!
My cat does the same thing, shes also about a year and a half. I think they will grow out of it, we might just have to wait til they are 2 or 3 years old before they do
