What kind of cats were used as models for Egyptian cat scultpures?
You know, the black cat sitting in a rigid position? I'm trying to figure it out, and I know it's not the Egyptian Mau.
Sphynx cat, I think. The pretty little bald ones. Makes sense, because "Sphynx" is an Egyptian term. They look very similar. :) Long and skinny
The cat will either be Sphinx or a cornish rex, The sphinx has no hair, while the cornish rex appears to have a little bit of fur
Since cats were known in Ancient Egypt as the mau, and the Egyptian Mau is the oldest domesticated cat, then the Egyptian Mau is the model for the sculptures.
Would be interested in how you come to the conclusion that it's not the Egyptian Mau. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
The Sphynx breed was started in 1966 in Canada. The Cornish Rex is the result of a genetic mutation in the 1950s on a farm in Cornwall, UK.
Can you give us your source about the Abyssinian? I would love to know more.
