My cats skin is turning very red/pinkish...?
I was just looking closely at my cat...and i realized she's been itching a lot more lately (no fleas), but now her skin is very red. it looks very irritated and she's got sores right above her eye. I haven't seen her scratch right above her eye at all so it's weird that there is one there. I found blood on her fur. I'm hoping it's from her URI she sometimes sneezes out blood (the vet said it's a possibility she will have the URI for the rest of her life along with my other cat) They have both had it for quite a while and no medicine will help. But anyways, about the red skin. it's not normal. She's been acting weird lately. Is there some kind of skin disease cats can get (they are indoor cats)? I'm really worried...i don't have a job at the moment and my family cannot afford to take her to the vet right now. I don't want something to happen to her. Does anyone know what this could be? She's kind of blotchy also. I know everyone is gonna say to take her to the vet but i need opinions...advice on what this could be. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Also does anyone know of any Vets in Columbus, Ohio that you can do a payment plan and/or a loan type thing?
answer: I would say it's probably allergies. Scratching and red skin are exactly how a lot of cats and dogs respond to allergies whether it's something in the air or something in the food or even a single flea bite. The bad news is it can be hard to get the to bottom of it. The good news is something as simple as Benadryl could bring her comfort. If you have a vet you use regularly they may be willing to give you the dosing instructions for Benadryl over the phone. You can only use the one with Diphenhydramine. There are some benadryls that have other active ingredients so read the label very carefully. Then they only can have like .25 to .5 mg per pound to start with. You might need to cut the 25 mg pill into like 6 pieces, depending on your cat's weight. They can also have the liquid variety but I don't have dosing for that. Again, highly recommend you contact your vet for help with proper doses. If funds are really tight, you can go to JustAnswer.com and ask a vet. You have to pay for your answer, usually $12 to 15. But if you are not satisfied you can clarify your question, etc. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Otherwise start calling vets and asking about payments plans. CareCredit may be another option. It's a credit card strictly for medical-ish expenses but not all vets accept it so call ahead. If you do find that an anti-histamine helps, there are allergy tests available but they can be quite pricy. There are also other options besides allergies that may be causing her issues so it's best to work with a vet if you can work it in. Not an emergency but obviously she is uncomfortable so do what you can to start saving up some money to take her to the vet. Good luck!
