I have two 5 month old kittens, they lived outdoors until now and I have two pet birds. I don't want them to try and kill them or bat at them, because that could very well scare them to death. So how can i teach my kittens not to bother them or think about hunting them?
Thanks
Not easy, cats are hunters. There is a cage that has a solid clear plastic front. The cats could watch the birds but not able to get in. If you have to let the birds out, keep the cats out of the room and shut the door. Good luck. Remember this is not the cats being bad, it is just natural and part of nature.
firstly, its a cat's natural instinct to hunt so maybe having birds and cats at the same time was a bad idea. Where ever your birds are, keep a water spray bottle close to it. Every time your kittens bat at them or prowl around them spray the kittens with the water and sooner or later they will learn that going near the birds means getting punished.
I don't think it's possible to stop the kittens from doing what is natural for them. Try keeping the kittens away from the birds. Or, put the birds in a different room.

Good Luck!
You really can't fight thousands of years of evolution. Keep the birds in a separate room and keep the door firmly closed at all times.
It was wise of you to be aware of the danger and seek advice!
I had an outdoor cat many years ago that loved to catch birds and mice. I moved in with a roommate that had many cockateels. My cat never bother them . Don't know why, maybe outside free flying birds were more fun for him.
You can't. Hunting instinct is just that: instinct. Keep the birds in a separate room from the cats.
Pretty much impossible its instinct
I dunno, but my cats sleep on top of my bird cages and my birds could care less!
