To all those that answered my question before about my cat. When I found him in the garage, he was already gone. I'm just wanted to know if death came swift, I was hoping he did not suffer. He showed no signs of distress of any kind. Off course I would have taken him to the vet, but it was too late, and I am devastated about it! I am just trying to find answers of how can he die that quickly.I really don't know how he died. With in an hour in a half of him being on my lap he was dead.
Black Widow poison is a neurotoxin - and so operates by deadening the nerves from which paralysis results. Accordingly, there is very little direct pain. That is small comfort, but some anyway.
Are you sure it was a spider bite and not something else? Cats often find spilled anti-freeze attractive and will drink it - and can die from it - as well as any of several other substances such as weed killers, insecticides and so forth commonly found in garages. Check carefully before blaming a spider. They are rare around human dwellings anyway unless you are in the south - and would have a hard time biting a cat unless it was otherwise infirm.
How do you know it was a black widow?
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Sorry about your cat. He probably died quickly if it was a black widow. Cats are small and I bet the poison spreads quickly
I believe it takes about an hour to take down a full grown man so maybe 10 minutes the cat likely did not suffer probably passed out peacefully then went on to kiity heaven
Black widow spiders aren't as deadly to humans as people think. My husband was bit by one two months ago and the poison control hotline acted like it wasn't a big deal. They just said that if it got worse, swelled up more or he had breathing problems to go to the ER. He never did and was fine. However, for a cat .... that is a different story. I 'm sure since widow bites effect the nervous system she was killed within an hour or less. How are you certain it was a black widow? Did you see it? It could have been a heart condition, a stroke, or something else that happened quickly and without any prior symptoms. Sorry for your loss.
