Greetings. I have found a cat a few months ago in my neighborhood street. More specifically, previous owners left him behing because they moved out. I started feeding him on the sidewalk practically every day until now. Also, some other people from the neighborhood feed him as well. As weeks passed and I was feeding him, I started taking him inside my house from time to time but only for a few hours and he seemed to enjoy it. Now, the last few weeks I started feeding him exclusively inside my house and he seemed to like it this too. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I decided to adopt him since he's now left alone. I have him now for half a week. Because he was a housecat before, he was okay with the house. Today, not too long ago, he started pointing towards the door and passed me the message that he wanted to go out. I let him go out and when this happened, his behaviour changed all of a sudden. He was running away from me, he was growling when I picked him up, tried to bite and scratch me, and he also tried to shake himself off of me. He never did that a few hours ago. In fact, he was never like that. It's like he hates me all of a sudden! I'm surprised and shocked and really don't know what to do! Please help. Thanks in advance.
I know it's hard, but try not to take this personally. To me it sounds like once he got outside, he got really scared, maybe because he hadn't been out in a while, or he smelled something scary or heard something scary ... and he panicked. It doesn't mean that he doesn ' t love you. Humans will shriek or cuss when something scares them while animals bite and scratch and try to get away.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com It would probably be a good idea to keep him inside all the time. Then you don't have to worry about this happening again, and it will keep him from getting worms, fleas, and potentially fatal cat diseases, to say nothing of cars , dogs .... you get the idea. Since the people who had him were obviously not responsible people, you may want to double check to make sure he's neutered.
Thank you so much for taking this cat in when your neighbors so callously left him behind. You get a big cheer from me!
