Since you care for the cat and feed it and all the cat wants is to be nice back at you. And leaving dead animals is the cat's way of doing that. To a cat that lives outside, hunting animals is their way of getting food. Since you are providing your cat food already, it wants to pay you back by giving you some of their food, even if you don't like it or eat it. Your cat just wants to pay you back by giving you some of their food .
Most outdoor cats do this. I have a cat, and he does this all the time. They leave dead animals by the door because they are still in touch with their wild instincts. I'm not an expert, but this is what I think. If you want a way to stop it, block the cat flap overnight, if he brings them in during the day, then maybe think about putting a collar on him/her. It must have a bell, this alerts the animals they are trying to catch and scares them away.
PSYour cat also brings in animals because they are like a present to you, be grateful:)

Cats often catch prey to give to their owners as presents. That what cats think they are doing, and that you will be pleased. You see, cats see us humans as inable to catch prey. Therefore they try to teach us to hunt by leaving dead animals which they've caught around the house. Next time you see one and your cat is around, don't scream at him or scold him/her. Just ignore him and throw it away. If you pet him he will likely think you want him to carry on. He probably will do anyway, but thats ok.

Hope i helped, MegzieB:)
Cats are carnivores, natural hunters. It is instinct for them to want to hunt and please their master. It is assuming that you will appreciate the offer of food as a present. While gross, your pet is just trying to please you.
Your cat is leaving you a present. I have also heard that cats do this because they think that their humans are too stupid to hunt, therefore, by leaving animals near the door, they are saying, see, this is what you are supposed to do.
It's their version of the "trophy hunt". A kind of look what I did. I have had many gophers, birds, mice etc left for my approval. If you have a pet door to the outside expect them in house as well.
He wants your approval, he wants to show that he is a good hunter and is bringing them to you as tribute. The appropriate response is to praise him , and then quietly dispose of the evidence ..
He was trying to warn you.
Well, Its just like you bringing a paycheck home, its a gift, a well earned prize.

Just praise your cat and dispose of the dead animal
The cat wants to prove his loyalty to you and earn his keep in your household.
It loves you and is helping fill the family coffers with food. In other words he wants you to keep him.
