i got a bag of food from the petshop, i didnt realize it was for senior cats 7 + years old, my cats are barely 1 yet, does it really matter? cuz one of the cats puked it out ...... its purina pro-plan and my cats are normal domestic ones i'd say tabby ... one is black with long fur and the other is brownish grey tiger-like with shorter fur
It usually doesn't have as much fat/protein as younger cat food. Your cat may lose weight and the abrupt switch doesn't seem to be sitting well. Having said that, I would just buy a bag of normal food and mix the two together. That way you don't waste the food but you don't shock your kitten's system.
It won't hurt them, it just has different nutrients in it that are good for senior cats. It won't have all the nutrients for them for the best growth possible, but they would be able to live off of it and grow. It would be better to feed them food for their age group though senior food wouldn't hurt them. They cats just might have trouble getting used to the taste because it tastes different to them then food for their age group does because of the nutrients and such.
You cannot abruptly change a cat's food, they need a few weeks of adjustment. That's why your cat vomited. Senior cat food has less calories for a less active cat, so your cats wouldn't get enough calories. Feed the old food and get food that's appropriate for their age for the future. Gradually decrease the old food and increase the new food when switching.
IMO Purina ProPlan is not good food - its adequate, but there are much better brands. I know that ProPlan does affect some cats either coat wise (dries the coat out) or they throw it up. It won't hurt them but this is my suggestion since you cannot return it.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Buy some higher quality food (Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, Merrick/BG (before grain) and mix it with the ProPlan. Your cats will be getting better food and it may help the one that threw up the ProPlan.
Younger cats need different amounts of vitamins and protein and such in their diets. They're still growing and developing and are much more active so their food with have more fat, protein and such. Senior cat food won't have the right balance of nutrition, but at the same time it shouldn't hurt the younger cat. Food is food.
Since you probably don't want to waste the senior cat food - cat food is expensive! Get another bag of cat food that is appropriate for your cat's age and mix them - that way your cat will get all the nutrition he needs without wasting the other bag. That's what I would do.
It won't hurt them, it's just not formulated for them. Meaning it's nutrition focus is for that of an old cat, not a young one.
Senior food is usually crap-there are no "senior" mice or chimpunks in the wild. All cats need a low carb wet diet
