It was very scary last bight the storm was very loud my cat has her own shed outside and my mum would t let me bring her in. 6 years ago my cat had fits and she was on tablets and hasn't had a fit since the tablets were only for a few weeks. Yesterday at night my mum heard my cat yell and heard banging on the shed it was my cat having a fit. She is 12 years old. My cat was sleepy in the morning but is fine now should I be worried?
Yes, be worried. I am sure your cat had a seizure during the frightening noises while being shut up alone in a shed.
A 12 year old cat should be able to come inside and live the rest of her life in comfort and peace and with people and not alone.
The medicine (most likely Phenobarbital) which is very inexpensive is a lifetime medicine for any seizure cat.
Seizures fry the brain, literally. Instant care needs to be taken during a seizure. Cool water gently squeezed from a washcloth dripped over her head and back/body, then leave cool cloths on her head and body - if seizure lasts more than 3 minutes , it's an emergency and she needs to go to an emergency vet.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com It's time to bring your 12 year old indoors to live in comfort for the rest of her life. A closed in shed is no place for the elderly. Tell your mom to go sleep out there during the next rainstorm.
She needs to be back on meds, the Phenobarbital. I have a seizure cat and am Red Cross certified in dog and cat emergency care first aid.
Get your cat back on the lifetime seizure meds which are so inexpensive, have a real talk with your mom about your cat needing to be an indoor cat now because of her age. I swear, you're going to walk out there one day and she's going to be alone and dead. Seizures can be fatal as well.
Get your mom caught up on learning compassion for all beings!
Loud noises and the flash of lightning can trigger seizures in animals that are already predisposed to them. Strobe lights can have the same effect.
