I was cleaning out my cat's bowl a few weeks ago and discovered clumped up moldy food, she may have eaten. Now she is loosing weight, now eating much, and shedding more than usual. What is wrong with her, and is there some kind of medicine I can get her? Maybe at walmart or somewhere?
At WALMART? Are you freaking KIDDING me? This cat needs a VET. And if you "can't afford one" then to be immediately surrendered to a shelter . Shame on you!
You don't say how old your cat is. When did the symptoms start to show, since she ate the food few weeks ago the symptoms should appear right after. She should have vomited and had diarrhea, does she have this symptoms? cats also start to cry since they get very painful stomach ache if they poisoned. Maybe its not the food, cats will not eat anything that's gone bad, or if they do they stomach does tolerate it, their stomach is made for that. I think you should check your cats teeth, does she have a bad breath? about the shedding, it is because she is not eating and she is lacking nutrition's. Does your cat go outside, maybe she has a fur ball and she needs grass, maybe she has an obstruction. Diabetes also should be concerned. Unfortunately there's nothing you can get from walmart, It can be one of this many things so, please take her to the vet ASAP, she is sick and she might need antibiotics. I hope she gets better soon and please keep me posted.
Well, you've probably figured out that you need to throw out uneaten food every day. That includes dry food too, so you should never put new food on top of old! Dishes that are for canned food should be washed daily (just like ours).
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com At any rate, if your cat was sick from spoiled food it would not have lasted this long. She needs to be seen by a vet-the sooner the better. Walmart, Petsmart, etc, are NOT reasonable substitutes for vet care. Even with my training & many years of experience I would not try to treat a cat with those symptoms without a correct diagnosis. It could be as simple as parasites, as serious as kidney disease or numerous other things & treating her incorrectly could cause more problems for her.
Getting them proper medical care is one of the basic responsibilities of being a pet owner!
Best wishes to both of you.
First off, you cant give medicines to any pet, without a proper diagnosis from a veterinarian. There is no medication otc that will even treat the symptoms you have provided. You need to go to the vet and get a proper diagnosis. Your cat may need bloodwork to check her organ functions. Maybe a thyroid profile. DO NOT GIVE YOUR CAT ANYTHING OTC WITH OUT CONSULATION WITH A VET. you could make your cats health issue way worse than it is. Hope this helps.
Sometimes cats will eat things they shouldn't and get sick. Cats get sick like any other mammal. Just keep her comfy. Try some wet food to make sure she is getting enough fluids and plenty of water. You can also get Salmon oil with probiotics to help her digestion from a pet store like petco or pet smart.

If it doesn't clear up in a couple of weeks she should get checked out at the vet.
It is not a good idea to self-medicate a cat. She sounds as if she needs to see the vet as soon as possible. Her symptoms suggest she is in need of proper veterinary care.
