In Seattle, where can I buy a nice-looking barrier to keep m

  ... Away from the bedrooms?

My cat has claws and can jump pretty high, but we need to keep him out of the bedrooms because of allergies that some family members have. I want to buy something that looks fairly decent with bamboo floors that will also keep him out of the upstairs where there is no door to block him out
retractable screen. It was like one of those roll-up window shades but it is vertical and rolls open when you need it. It would keep the cat less isolated because he could still hear the family and get good air circulation and you could have something that is easily hidden.

This is a site which may give you a better idea of what I am talking about. They have them at most home improvement stores. http ://www.phantomscreens.com/
I don't think there is a barrier other than a door that is really going to keep a cat downstairs. cats can scale fences and climb trees. Other than a guard dog, a moat, or a door, I don't think it's gonna happen.

When my husband and I moved in together, we knew he had a cat allergy, but he had mostly gotten over it through exposure in smaller doses visiting my apartment where my cat lived. We knew we had to keep the cat out of the bedroom and off the bed though, because sleeping with cat hair would be too much, so we just closed the doors. The first few nights were rough (she cried outside the door for hours) but after that, she just accepted it and found a new place to curl up.
