They have a big bowl of hard food out all day everyday but since they won't eat a lot of it I feed them each a can or two of cat food everyday. My 8 month old cat is skinnier and weighs less then my 2 month old kitten. How is this? They both get fed in seperate places so that I can ensure they eat their own food. They beg so much it's insane. Anytime I walk to the kitchen they are meowing and running after me and one hopes on the counter to beg even more. WHY?
My skinny cat loves to play, her coat is shiny, normal bowel movements, very friendly. She shows no signs of sickness she is just really slim. What up with all this? And yes my kitten is fat. What am I doing wrong?
Both of these "cats" are still KITTENS, and should be eating KITTEN FOOD ...... for the proper nutrition needed to grow & develop.
Kittens are ALWAYS hungry, and since they know you'll feed them the canned meat, they don't eat their kibble as much. You can get canned KITTEN FOOD, right next to the regular canned cat food ...... and feed them that!

As for the skinnier 8 month old ........ it may have something to do with her genetics. If she's genetically programed to be a long, slender cat (like Siamese), then she's going to look skinny until she gets the extra nurtition to "fill out" some. My Siamese are all around 7-8 lbs, and they're adults. If your 2 month old is of a different "breed", (s) he may have some Persian or other "chunky" breed in her "makeup "....... thus, looks fat, even if she isn't overweight.
Get some KITTEN (dry & canned), feed this to them (breakfast & dinner, ONLY) and leave the KITTEN KIBBLE out for them to "nibble" on the rest of the time. The need the KITTEN food until they ' re AT LEAST ONE YEAR OLD .........
Your kittens will feel better, and maybe you won't be "bombarded" by them when you go into the kitchen ..........
Hope this helps .......... Good luck .........
A 2 month old kitten should eat more than an 8 month old cat. The 8 month old kitten should be eating 1/3 to 1/2 cup of dry food twice daily, or half of a 4 ounce can of kitten food (yes, canned kitten food, not regular adult food) twice daily. The 2 month old kitten should be eating as much as a whole can of the moist kitten food and the same amount of dry food daily.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Also, if your cats have been outside or have eaten raw meat, try worming them. Remember though, that it will have to be done again in six weeks to make sure all the worms are passed.
Nothing. Baby kittens plump up . I would only be feeding them one can a day. and probably split the can in half between them. That way they know to eat the hard food too. Which should always just be out. They like to beg, they know you will give in. So tell them No and move on, soon they will learn what time they get food. Make sure to feed them canned food around the same time each day too.
Although you say one is fat and one is skinny i would worm they both as this is a sign of worm infestation and best deal with quickly sounds like one has ring (fat) and one has tread (skinny) if you have wormed them recently just do it again it can't do any harm so long as two weeks or more have passed
everyday
When was their last checkup? Verify medically that they are both healthy.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Since you have dry food left out for them all day, I would assume that they are either begging due to habit because someone gives in and feeds them, or they are not begging but looking for attention or something else.
Note that an 8 month old kitten will be in that slender, gawky phase of physical development. Kittens should be on the chubbier side if they've just left their mother since in addtion to mother's milk they would have been getting high quality kitten food as well.
They're both kittens, they should both be fed kitten food. However the younger one should probably be fed several times a day (3 or 4) and the older one twice a day.
I feed my cats once a day; that meals consists of their favorite dry and wet food mixed together. Usually give it to them at night, about 6pm. But I also leave just plain, dry food out for them throughout the day just in case they need a snack.
Think about it like this - would you want to eat just once a day? If you did, you'd need something to snack on to keep you held over until it's meal time.

My cats are 100% healthy and love when it's time for dinner! They run to the kitchen and meow at my feet while I'm mixing their food together, then race me to the bedroom and literally get in line waiting for me to put their food down. It's too adorable.
Also what you should know is 2 of them are kittens (about 3 months old) and the other is a 1 year old cat. And all 3 of them are perfectly fine with being fed once a day. It might take a little while to get them use to it, but they'll eventually get in the rythm.
Hope this helps.
